A little further afield are Petworth House, The Weald & Down open air museum and Goodwood house, horse racing and motor racing circuit.

Many a guide book shows circular walks from Haslemere train station which come right past the pub - and indeed plenty of walkers come down from London for the pleasure. The station is roughly 4 miles away through lovely countryside (but you could always take a taxi if you prefer!)

The Red Lion pub in Fernhurst, Surrey, is located right at the edge of the lovely village green. It’s a popular region with walkers, but you don’t even need to leave the pub’s front garden for great views of the Southdowns.
